GODFREY Edwin "Ted"

THE death of Mr Edwin J. (Ted) Godfrey, on the eve of his 80th birthday has severed another of the few remaining links in the chain of Ongerup pioneers.
Ted was born in South Australia and came to W.A. with his parents in 1905 when they began farming in Beverley.
In 1913 the elder Mr Godfrey with son Thomas, came to this district to manage a property 7 miles south of Toompup for Judge Draper.
The farm is now owned by Mr R. Margesson.
At this time Ted, though only 17 years of age, had his own team of horses and was working at Bolgart, but came to Gnowangerup and worked for Formbys and Stutleys in 1915 and then joined his parents and brothers and sisters when they moved on to their own property, “Myrtle Bank" in 1919.

EDWIN & CATHERINE "KITTY" GODFREY

Ted married Catherine Mary "Kitty" Magner, daughter of the first family to settle in Ongerup, John Thomas & Sarah Annie Magner, at Victoria Park on 23rd March 1932.
After her death in 1954, he moved to Kojonup with his son Doug.
However, Ongerup and family called him back and he spent his last few years with old friends in Ongerup, playing bowls and working in his garden.
Mr Godfrey is survived by a daughter Belle (Mrs Ron Brown of Needilup), and son Doug, of Kojonup.
